About

I earned a Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in nonfiction writing and editing for the Web from George Mason University. During my time at school, I served as Culture Editor and Senior Staff Writer for the only independent student newspaper on campus. This experience allowed me to exercise my detailed writing and editing skills in a deadline-driven environment. I have also, through the University English department, conducted undergraduate talks on hypertext and copyright and given lectures to graduate students on web design.

I have three years of office experience. I am skilled in Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint; and Adobe Acrobat, PhotoShop CS, and Illustrator CS. I am proficient with web composers like Dreamweaver and Adobe GoLive for website development and maintenance. I have advanced hand-coding skills in (X)HTML and CSS and I have had extensive experience with FTP.

Writing

I have blogged about blogging and hypertext. I have shadowed a washingtonpost.com reporter and taken classes in AP style. Some of the websites I created have been for economists and marching bands. I have written an extensive guide to posting (PDF) as a website companion.

Sample Work

The website for Annandale High School Bands was a challenge in simplicity. The website aims to increase the speed and scope of the department's communication. Updating and maintenance needs to be simple to achieve this goal. I integrated a blogging application to the front page of the website to allow simple and fast updates to the site.
